Acorn Wood Shop

Wooden home decor and kitchen goods. I first learned about wood turning while taking a general carpentry class at a local college. I had recently moved into a new house and wanted to make furniture for my home. Once in the woodshop, I was drawn to the row of lathes at the back of the room with all the turning tools lining the wall. Here and there were the practice pieces left by other students featuring glue ups of exotic woods, broken bowls or half-done candlesticks. I was intrigued by the handheld scale and tactical quality of what could be made on a lathe. I soon enrolled in workshops learning bowl making and spindle turning, eventually setting up my own shop at home. I like to make functional pieces to warm the home.

Studio Maru

I am a creative director and maker residing in the lower Hudson Valley, creating and selling my encaustic pieces since 2021. My creations vary in size, ranging from 5 x 5” to 12” x 12”, and seamlessly blend diverse mediums such as cut paper collage, acrylic, gouache, and encaustic monoprints. Other handmade objects include handpainted wooden beaded necklaces and bracelets. Each unique piece is set on a wooden, hang-ready frame and adorned with a final touch of melted encaustic wax. This meticulous process results in a lustrous, almost ceramic tile finish, enhancing the unique beauty of each piece.

Sweet Francesca

Gourmet baked goods and confections with a focus on Italian goods. I am most known for are my Italian 7 Layer Cookies (rainbow cookies), though my products range from classic Italian Cookies you'd find in a bakery on Arthur Avenue, to fresh baked blueberry poptarts, sourdough bread, coffee cake, and different nut brittles. My products follow the seasons and will always have seasonly/holiday appropriate options. I am a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America, but I am not a fan of the stuck-up nature that coincides with it. I use my technical skills to create incredible eats of classic, comfort sweets.
